HEADLAND, Ala. (WDHN) — Earlier this month, Headland welcomed seven new small businesses into the family which was right in time for two huge holidays — Black Friday and Small Business Saturday.

“Small Business Saturday is all about shopping small and supporting those local businesses who are here for us year around its a special day that we designate to make sure we get all of those great holiday gifts,” said Adrienne Wilkins, Headland Chamber of Commerce Executive Director.

One longtime business, Diann’s Florist and Lemon and Magnolia Gift Boutique, is in the festive mood as they have a room full of holiday gifts and decorations. The store owner said they are fortunate enough to prosper all year round, but it’s something about these two consecutive shopping holidays.

“We seen a large growth in customers coming from out of town to shop with us from different little towns around the wiregrass and they continue to shop with us through the year,” Susan Lanton said.

And while you’re out shopping for those early gifts on both days, there’s also a grand opportunity you could receive a little gift as well.

“For Small Business Saturday the first 25 customers with purchase will receive a free gift, we have some great doorbusters we can offer both days, we’re gonna have a big sale on our Cirelli jewelry we have hobo handbags we’re going to put a sale on,” Lanton said.

Latton said she’s looking forward to seeing customers’ hometown shopping and the chamber of commerce hopes people will spend their dollars locally before running to big box stores.

“You know we all have that person in our life that’s really hard to shop for check out your local retailers they have such a great finger on what our local people really love and they keep all of those items in stock,” Wilkins said.
