DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — The House of Ruth held its 7th annual Walk A Mile In Her Shoes Saturday morning.

Each year, there are about 500,000 victims of sexual assault and rape in the united states — and it happens right here at home too in the Wiregrass.

This morning, mostly men walked or ran in red high heels for a mile to show support for those sexual assault victims.

After the walk, the runners received an award for participating such as the most spirited, traveling the distance, fastest time, and youngest runner.

One of the participants, Phillip Bache, raised over 3,000 dollars with his classmates and drove over 500 miles from Tennessee to participate in the event.

“I was a police officer and state trooper and I had the need for places like the House of Ruth and the support and facilities like it. It helped people close to me really good friends of mine,” He said.

Around 100 people showed up at the event.
