Houston County commission rewards local school with much needed funds

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Four students from Wicksburg High School’s skeet team are heading to Nebraska later this month to represent Alabama in the 4-H Shooting Sports National Championships.

The tournament will host skeet teams from all over the country that will compete in several events such as compound archery, recurve archery, air rifle, air pistol, .22 rifle, .22 pistol, shotgun, muzzleloading, and hunting skills.

The Wicksburg team is raising money to cover their traveling expenses, lodging, and meals for their trip across the country.

The Houston County commission rewarded $1,000 to the team to show their support for their accomplishments.

“To us, it means a lot to see young people involved in doing these kinds of things, and they are all wonderful kids that want to make a difference and show their ability to do and what they accomplish and we want to be a part of that,” Houston County Commissioner Doug Sinquefield said.
