HOUSTON COUNTY, Ala. (WDHN) — Houston County will be receiving more than $1 million from Alabama’s opioid settlement.
$1.3 million will be distributed to the county over the course of 15 years. This comes after the state is now receiving hundreds of millions of dollars as part of a settlement with three pharmaceutical companies for their role in the state’s opioid crisis. Funds from the settlement are being distributed to every county that joined in on the lawsuit.
On Monday, the Houston County Commission approved these funds to be added to the upcoming yearly budget and to plan accordingly for the following 14 years.
