DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Dothan is known as an economic driver due to its location geographically — a regional hub for retail and industries.

But the root of that success stems from area elected officials who invest in the community.

“Through infrastructure improvements that we see in our roadways, and water-sewer all of those things are key to be able to recruit and retain industry,” said Colton Cureton, with the Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce.

One of the industries in the area that recently announced an expansion is the Dothan warehouse. The warehouse is in phase two of its $8 million investment project — adding a second freezer warehouse on Westgate Parkway

“They are able to touch a lot of industry sectors, for example, food storage and processing is big in our market,” Cureton said.

Another project that is currently underway is the $57 million dollar FedEx facility in Sam Houston industrial park — one of the largest economic development projects.

The project has been taking place for about six months and has been moving along smoothly — more land is being cleared. The building frame is going up, and road improvements are coming soon.

Both projects will produce 225 jobs in the area on top of other available positions. Cureton believes these new economic developments will allow citizens to expand their careers and branch out to new opportunities.

And most importantly, drop the unemployment lower and help the economy recover from the pandemic.

“If they are in an industry that they want to diversify their skillset and grow their knowledge they can do that. To have that support in the community is a huge win,” He said.

Both the Dothan Warehouse and the FedEx facility are accepting applications.
