League of Women Voters helps get more citizens registered to vote

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Tuesday is National Voter Registration Day!

The Southeast Alabama League of Women Voters celebrated at Mural City Coffee.

The purpose of the non-partisan league is to get people registered to vote so they have their voices heard which is important.

The league has made stops at a number of places such as libraries, parks, and anywhere that draws a lot of people.

Lyn Heffernan with the League of Women voters said the strategy appears to be working.

“We had one of the ACOM students who just moved here she’s changed her driver’s license but we gave her a voter registration form, so she can change her voting registration,” Heffernan said. “We do have the most number of unregistered people come up to us when we’re at the colleges because a lot of them are just graduating high school.”

The next stop they will visit is Rollin’s bakery on October 30th. But you don’t have to wait a month to register, simply go to the Alabama secretary of state’s website.
