ABBEVILLE, Ala. (WDHN) — The Henry County Board of Education is partnering with its county commissioners to provide a new school resource officer at Abbeville Elementary.
The Henry County Commission unanimously voted to approve the partnership and is hoping to assist the board of education by having a police presence on each campus.
Probate Judge and Commission Chairman, David Money, says the partnership will give officers a chance to shine a positive light on the community.
“Make sure that young children, students understand that police are there to protect and to help,” Money said. “So, we’ll be proactive in establishing those relationships that hopefully, will evolve into a lifetime of friendships and understanding for law enforcement.”
The Henry County Board of Education hopes to finalize these plans at its next board meeting, which is scheduled for the end of this month.
