DOTHAN, Ala (WDHN)— After a car was driven into a crowd, a Dothan woman used the chaos of the accident and a disorderly crowd to try and loot a suspect’s vehicle before being caught and arrested, according to the Dothan Police Department

On Monday, October 31, around 8:40 p.m. Dothan Police Department responded to the 700 Block of Tuskegee Street for a report of a pedestrian being hit by a vehicle.

According to a Dothan Police Department press release, after police arrived on the scene they began to tend to a victim on the ground and the crowd surrounding the officers began to grow, causing the officers to be distracted.

The first victim was transported to Southeast Health and treated for lower leg injuries from being hit by a car.

The two other victims involved were taken to Southeast Health by a personal vehicle before officers arrived.

Officers also found a suspect’s car at the scene that had hit the front porch of an apartment. The car was unoccupied.

According to the Dothan Police Department, while the crowd was in disarray, Ariyan Tranice McCoy,19, of Dothan attempted to take items from the suspect’s car and officers told her not to. McCoy allegedly charged officers and after being taken into custody and put into a patrol car, she damaged the rear of the car and was sprayed with pepper spray.

McCoy was charged with obstructing a government operation, resisting arrest, tampering with physical evidence, and criminal mischief third degree.

While investigating the scene, DPD says several shots were fired around the area causing more alarm in the crowd.

This is an active investigation. Dothan Police are attempting to identify the driver of the vehicle and the suspect(s) who are responsible for the gunshots.
