DALE CO., Ala. (WDHN)—Recently, District Two State School Board member, Tracie West, visited Ariton school in rural,
Northeast Dale County. She congratulated the staff for being one of 12 reading and science
“Spotlight” schools in the state.

Following two-and-a-half years of the pandemic, West says education in the state is heading in the right direction.

The Auburn resident represents District 2 on the state school board. It geographically follows the same 14 counties included in U.S. Congressman Barry Moore’s district.

West says her colleagues on the state board, along with Governor Ivey are seeing “great strides”
being made in the classroom.

West says a key to improving education in Alabama classrooms is retaining” experienced teachers.
