GENEVA CO., Ala. (WDHN) — Alabama Law Enforcement agency investigators mapped out a crash scene in northern Geneva County.

On Monday morning, ALEA investigators used a drone to assist in mapping out Saturday afternoon’s crash site. Traffic was temporarily held up as investigators worked to determine details of the wreck.

It occurred a few miles north of Samson along State Highway 87. A 2017 Nissan Maxima driven by Debra Strickland of Samson collided with a 2019 Subaru outback driven by an Owensboro, Kentucky resident. The driver and two passengers in the Subaru were transported to an area hospital with unspecified injuries.

Strickland left the site and was later arrested for leaving the scene of a motor vehicle wreck. The 38-year-old is the principal of Elba Elementary School, and Superintendent Chris Moseley, says “she’s been placed on administrative leave” pending the outcome of an investigation. School counselor Kenya Martin has been named interim principal.

For one Elba resident, he didn’t mind being held up in traffic so authorities could get down to the bottom of what exactly took place. Jeff Cochran says “yes, kind of a shock. It was, it was. I guess we will have to work itself out I do believe. But, I guess it was sort of a shock, yes sir. yes sir.”

The Alabama Highway Patrol cuts off a portion of State Highway 87 in order to use a drone in order to map out the wreck which occurred on Saturday.

An ALEA spokesperson says no additional details will be released concerning the wreck until the investigation is completed.

Strickland is expected to have her bond hearing before a judge on Tuesday.
