Apartments, shops, and more: Dothan’s west side to see large growth

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — As 2020 comes to a close, new business opportunities are opening in the city of Dothan, specifically on the west side of Ross Clark Circle.

The land next to the Westside Publix complex is being converted into a brand new apartment complex, more retail stores, and possibly more restaurants.

After seeing the growth that has already taken place on that side of town, Mayor Mark Saliba explained his excitement for the city but concern about growing traffic.

“You know, this section is already the highest traffic count, 40-something-thousand cars a day coming in and out of the city from around Flowers Hospital down to the circle so naturally that continues to grow.” Saliba said.

Saliba explained that although Dothan would like to expand new business to other areas of the city, they cannot tell companies where to settle.

They also understand why most businesses want to settle on that side of the city with the traffic numbers rising every day.

“And so, we’re hoping to influence in some of the areas that have not had the growth like the Northwest side of town has,” he said. “But we’re fairly conservative in that we don’t want to try to tell someone they can’t build someone.”

The mayor stated that the estimated time of finish for the current construction is the end of next year or the beginning of 2022.

“So yes, this area is still hot and still growing,” he finished.
