Bankruptcy filings from the COVID-19 pandemic

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — As the pandemic is closer to coming to an end, and no further stimulus relief package on the horizon, one local attorney is helping the community get their financial dilemmas together.

The third is the managing partner at the Gil Law Firm, Rafael Gil says the number of people filing for bankruptcy is down across the state of Alabama.

Even though he says this is a good sign, he believes there will be a turn and more people will be using this financial tool once stimulus checks and extra unemployment funds go away.

Gil wants anyone in the Wiregrass community considering bankruptcy not to feel embarrassed and to reach out for help.

“If your credit card debt is overwhelming you, your debt is overwhelming you because of the pandemic, you can file bankruptcy,” said Gil.

Gil encourages anyone considering bankruptcy to reach out to a local attorney. He says they can offer advice and option best suited to your financial situation.
