UPDATE: Man dies after standoff with law enforcement on Cottonwood Road

COTTONWOOD, Ala. (WDHN) – The suspect who barricaded himself inside a home on Cottonwood Road Tuesday afternoon has died and been identified.

Houston County Coroner Robert Byrd confirmed the name of the suspect as Justin Roberts, 35, of Cottonwood.

Law enforcement officers used deadly force when the man exited the home with a gun. Reports indicated deputies repeatedly asked the man to drop his weapon.

The suspect died en route to a local hospital after being shot multiple times.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency will now take over the investigation.

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — On Tuesday afternoon, a suspect barricaded himself in a house on Cottonwood Road, according to police.

According to reports, the suspect barricaded himself in the 12000 Block of Cottonwood Road. Cottonwood Police responded to the scene after a domestic call to the residence.

Negotiations did take place between police and the suspect, however, the man did exit the home and refused to drop his firearm. Law enforcement then open-fired on the man where he received multiple gunshot wounds. The suspect was then taken to Southeast Health.

Cottonwood Rescue requested Dothan Fire meet on Cottonwood Road with advanced life support due to the gunshot wounds.

Local reports are saying Cottonwood Rescue was escorted to the hospital with law enforcement in front and rear of the ambulance.

The condition of the suspect is unknown at this time.
