HOUSTON COUNTY, Ala. (WDHN) — With the start of the school year just a couple of weeks away, the school district’s transportation divisions throughout the Wiregrass are preparing for the students who catch their buses.

According to the Transportation Supervisor at Houston County Schools, Steven Dasinger, as of right now, they have a driver for every bus this year, but that doesn’t mean the district is finished searching for people to fill important positions.

He said they are still recruiting for substitute teachers and aides. He also mentions some districts in the Wiregrass are still hiring bus drivers. Dasinger encourages people interested in driving a bus to reach out since this will be a very vital year making sure students and everyone else in the community stay healthy.

“Our bus drivers stepped up, the entire school system, teachers, bus drivers, my mechanics here at the bus shop,” Dasinger said. “They all went the extra mile to ensure our kids stay safe, and we want to continue.”

Dasinger also reminds the community to slow down and be cautious since soon there will be more buses with children out on the roads.
