NEW BROCKTON, Ala.(WDHN) — If you live in Coffee County and are looking for notification of severe thunderstorms and tornado warnings, a change is on the way.
Right now, Coffee County has a mass notification system that is available for anyone and is free of charge.
This system has been operating for two years now, but in the coming weeks will be improved.
The system currently alerts people only in the specific location or “polygon” of severe weather, but soon, everyone in Coffee County will receive notifications so they have time to take precautions.
“You’re going to get a notification, which will help you stay prepared and stay in the know,” Coffee County EMA Deputy Director, Grant Lyons said. “Also, a lot of the time people will use these warnings to take action when you have a warning. We want you to take action, you need to be somewhere safe.”
To sign up for these mass notifications, you can visit their website to stay up-to-date with severe weather and tornado warnings in the future.
