COFFEE COUNTY, Ala. (WDHN) — After an Aniah’s Law hearing, Judge Josh Wilson has denied the bond for a man accused of sexually assaulting a teenager.

According to the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, Christopher Nelson was arrested on May 19 after an investigation into a complaint that occurred in the 300 block of Highway 189 and allegedly involved a 16-year-old victim. He was charged with one count of Sodomy in the first degree and held without bond.

On May 23, Coffee County District Judge Wilson ordered Aniah’s law hearing for the afternoon of Thursday, May 25 at the Elba courthouse, and a day later, Wilson denied the bond.

The nature and circumstances of the offense charged, the weight of evidence against the defendent, and the nature of seriousness of the danger to any person of the community if the defendent is released having been considered by the Court, the Court is satisfied that the defendent presents a serious risk to the victim and public at large if the defendent were to be released from custody.
