ENTERPRISE, Ala (WDHN) — A Florida man wanted by the U.S. Marshalls on sex crimes was arrested this week in Enterprise after a multi-hour standoff.

According to Enterprise Police, at 5:46 a.m. on Monday, November 6, U.S. Marshals attempted to execute an arrest warrant in the 800 block of South Ouida Street when the suspect, 54-year-old Franklin Pierce Smith, barricaded himself inside the home with a gun.

Coffee County Sheriff Scott Byrd says that after nearly 5 hours, at approximately 11:00 a.m., Smith surrendered himself to deputies and was booked into the Coffee County Jail on a $500,000 bond.

A release from the Enterprise Police Department states Smith was wanted out of Holmes County, Florida, on felony charges of sexual assault and human trafficking. Jail records show that Smith is a resident of Graceville, Florida.

No further details will be released at this time due to the possibility of additional charges. We would like to thank the Houston County Sheriff’s Office, Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, Dothan Police, ALEA, U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, EFD, Enterprise Rescue, and the DAs office for their assistance and support.
