OZARK, Ala (WDHN) — A 50-year-old man has been arrested after police say he beat a family member with mental disabilities on several occasions.

On the afternoon of Sunday, August 20, Timothy Byrd was arrested and charged with one count of Intentional Abuse or Neglect of a Protected Person.

According to Deputy Chief Micheal Bryan with Ozark Police, his department began investigating alleged abuse on Sunday and discovered Byrd’s 46-year-old brother, who has a mental disability, with bruises across his face, arms, legs, and torso. Byrd was his brother’s legal guardian.

Deputy Chief Bryan says Byrd had beaten his brother multiple times, and someone else living inside the home they shared witnessed the abuse and reported it to the police.

The unidentified brother has been removed from the home, and the Department of Human Resources (DHR) is involved in the case, according to Deputy Chief Bryan.

The investigation is ongoing.

As of Monday afternoon, Byrd does not have a set bond, jail records state.
