DALE COUNTY, Ala (WDHN)— A 34-year-old man facing sex charges was transported to an Alabama prison this week after entering a guilty plea.
According to court documents filed in early September, Jeremy Morris pled guilty to one count of Rape in the First Degree and two counts of Sexual Abuse of a Child Less than 12.
Morris was arrested in September 2022 and charged with having sexual contact with a 12-year-old girl. He was initially facing one count of Rape, one count of Sexual Abuse of a Child less than 12, and one count of Sodomy, but in the plea agreement, the Sodomy charge was changed to another count of Sexual Abuse of a Child Less than 12.
Dale County Sheriff Mason Bynum says deputies arrested Morris after his office received a tip from the Tallahassee Police Department about a person, Morris, soliciting sexual contact from children.
After pleading guilty, Dale County Judge William Filmore sentenced Morris to 30 years.
On Monday, Morris was transported from the Dale County Jail to a facility with the Alabama Department of Corrections, per jail records.
Morris will receive credit for his time in the Dale County Jail and must register as a sex offender with a SORNA officer after his release.
