OZARK, Ala (WDHN)— A woman was sent to the hospital with severe injuries after authorities say she slammed into a tree during a high-speed chase through Dale County.
On Thursday afternoon, Ozark Police received reports of a woman stealing items from the Ozark Walmart.
According to Sheriff Mason Bynum, when officers arrived, the suspect fled, and a chase was initiated that traveled down 231 South and onto Highway 123, where the suspect attempted to drive into oncoming traffic somewhere between Ozark and Newton.
Bynum says his deputies joined in the chase and performed a pit maneuver, causing the suspect to run off the road and slam head-on into a tree, ejecting her.
The woman was transported to a local hospital with severe injuries. Bynum tells WDHN that she was alive and stable as of Friday morning.
