Daleville pay raises for police officers helps with training and recruitment

DALEVILLE, Ala (WDHN) — Earlier this year, the Daleville City Council approved a two-dollar-per-hour pay increase for its sworn patrol officers, and now, Daleville Public Safety Chief Allen Medley says the salary increase has helped to recruit and retain personnel.

Chief Medley says he currently has 17 full-time employees and one part-time employee. In addition, the department urges each officer to receive as much continuing education training as possible. The chief says that helps with recruitment as well.

“You have to be able to have that in your back pocket,” Medley said. “To say my officer has been trained on that, we’re required to have the 12 hours, but obviously, we have officers going long beyond that.”

In the last year, Chief Medley says his department lost only two officers to surrounding agencies.
He credits the low number of vacancies to higher pay and continuing education.
