DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — The House of Ruth in Dothan has been awarded almost $40,000 by the state of Alabama.

The House of Ruth is expected to use the $39,900 of funds allocated to help provide education and training to law enforcement officers, social service workers, and other first responders on issues of domestic violence and sexual assault, according to ADECA (Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs).

The organization will also offer education and awareness training to public schools and college students through community events, health fairs, job fairs, and media outreach.

The funds will help counties throughout the Wiregrass including Barbour, Bullock, Coffee, Covington, Dale, Geneva, Henry, Houston, and Pike counties.

This funding is part of Governor Ivey’s approved ADECA grants totaling $89,350 to help domestic violence victims in 12 south Alabama counties and one east Alabama county.
