DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — The Dothan City Commission approved vital funds on Tuesday that will assist the Dothan Police Department.
According to Dothan Police Chief Will Benny, these grants are a partnership with the Drug Enforcement Agency and the Department of Justice.
They are renewal grants which means the city has been getting these funds for several years. Chief Benny said these funds are a mainstay in the department’s budget process for what they are doing with the police and drug enforcement in the city.
“A lot of these funds are used for overtime expenditures,” Benny said. “Officers that are working overtime on drug cases are reimbursed, and it doesn’t come out of the pocket of the city.”
Chief Benny said approval of these grants will help the police force continue to serve and protect the citizens of Dothan.
