DOTHAN, Ala (WDHN)— Dothan Tech, the Dothan City School Career and Technical Education School, has been awarded the state’s Work-Based Learning of Excellence Award.

According to a release from Dothan City Schools, the award was based on the success of the first-ever Dothan Tech Job Day in February 2022. Dothan Tech was one of four winners from the 10-county Workforce Council region.

This award recognizes the work you have put in to building the kinds of unique solutions we need to put our citizens on paths to success and to keep our economy moving forward. You are leading a program that is successfully strengthening our talent pipelines and providing unrivaled learning opportunities that give your participants the skills to be successful. It is my sincere hope that you will continue to grow your program and that others around the state can learn from your success

Nick Moore, Director of the Office of Education and Workforce Transformation

The Dothan Tech Job Day saw the students shadowing in multiple career fields, learning what the jobs entail, and experiencing a typical day’s work.

In November, Dothan Tech presented the highlights from their shadow day at the Regional Best Practices event at Troy University.

Seven Regional Best Practice events were held around the state and after they were concluded, a committee reviewed the applications and presentations to select one winner from four categories: K-12, Community College, Higher Ed, and Non-Educational. Dothan Tech was selected as the winner of the K-12 category.

DCS says the second Job Shadow Day is planned for February 2, 2023.
