DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — After taking his oath of office and attending his first meeting, Aristotle Kirkland is excited to get out there and serve the city he grew up in and make sure he hears the voice of his constituents.

“I’ve said this before. It is not about me, it is about the people,” District 2 City Commissioner, Aristotle Kirkland said. “Let’s say over in the Ford Country area they need something different than what we call the Baptist Bottom.”

Kirkland also has big plans for his district and his city and wants to work towards the economic development of District 2.

“Economic development is important. If you change the economics of people, you change their lives,” said Kirkland. “Crime around the country and even here is important, so we need youth programs. This infrastructure is economic development, job creation, its youth programs.”

Kirkland also says he is excited to take this job to give back to the city that has given him so much.

“What now I have to do as a servant leader is make decisions for the whole. Not for myself, not a certain person, what’s good for District 2,” Kirkland said.

After sitting down with his new coworkers for the first Dothan Commission meeting, Kirkland says it was inspiring to sit in a seat that will allow him to make a change in a city he loves so much.

“It was absolutely incredible to be able to sit in with the mayor, the new commissioners, and so it ran really well, it was smooth,” said Kirkland.
