Dothan commissioners approve the construction of Memorial Trail

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — The Dothan City Commissioners approved entering an agreement for a project with the Alabama Department of Transportation to construct a memorial trail.

According to Kevin Cowper, the City Manager of Dothan said this project is part of Highway 84, east corridor redevelopment plan and this specific project is the area directly in front of the city’s memorial cemetery.

Cowper said the city has been making improvements to the cemetery, and that adding a walking trail will help the city’s program to build a walkway from Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine, or ACOM in east Dothan to downtown.

“There is a large green space area there, we’ll be able to put a winding trial, decorative lighting, some seating, and create a very nice atmosphere just for reflection,” Cowper said.

Cowper said future plans include adding artwork in this area that will provide an entrance into the downtown area.
