DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Around 7:45 a.m. this morning first responders in Dothan began to recognize the 20th anniversary of 9/11 by participating in a 24 hour stair climb at the Dothan Civic Center.

Over 100 firefighters, police officers, EMS responders, military, and citizens are all participating in this stair climb in which they will scale a flight of stairs in the Dothan Civic Center bearing the United States flag until 7:45 a.m. tomorrow morning.

Dothan Fire Chief, Larry Williams says this is their way of never forgetting the events that occurred on September 11, 2001.

“It’s really impacted our lives for the past 20 years,” Williams said. “So this is just a way for us to give back and to remember. And to fulfill the promise that we will never forget.”

The stair climb will end with the Patriot’s Day Ceremony tomorrow around 8 a.m. to remember those who lost their lives on 9/11.
