DOTHAN, Ala (WDHN) — Many library projects and initiatives may now be possible after the Dothan Houston County Library System was presented with a $50,000 check from the Friends of the Library.

The funds, which were presented during the Friends January 25 meeting, were raised throughout 2022, mainly through memberships, the Big Book Sale, and continuous smaller book sales at each DHCLS location, according to DHCLS.

The $50,000 will support updates to the library collection, outreach programs, replacement furniture, facility improvements, and technology upgrades.

This year’s donation represents the largest annual gift to DHCLS and is an increase of $8,000 over last year’s donation.

As a library system and as a community, we are incredibly fortunate to have the Friends of the Library. The Friends are hard-working, generous volunteers, and there are so many things that we simply could not do without their support.

DHCLS Director Chris Warren

During the meeting, the plans for the Spring 2023 Big Book Sale, which is scheduled for April 13 through 23 at the Westgate Recreation Center Gym, were also discussed.
