DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Dothan police have arrested a man for allegedly stealing more than $200,000 from his mother-in-law, according to investigators.

Sgt. Tim Mullis said the Houston County Department of Human Resources referred the case to the Dothan Police Department to safeguard the safety and welfare of an elderly person.

Investigators found that John D. Moore, 44, stole more than $200,000 from his mother-in-law. Mullis said Moore and his wife had power of attorney to use the victim’s money to pay her bills.

Police say that instead, Moore used it for unauthorized purchases.

Moore now faces 15 charges for financial exploitation of the elderly and is being held without bond. More charges are expected as the investigation continues.
