DOTHAN, Ala (WDHN) — A former NFL player is providing a way for the youth in Dothan to get a taste of the NFL.
The idea came from Dothan native Izell Reese to transition the Grandview Elementary School into the Alabama Youth Center.
Friday, Reese met with Mayor Saliba, Dothan Leisure Services, and other city leaders to take a look at the field to see how they could bring the first-ever NFL FLAG youth field to Dothan.
The league will be for boys and girls ages 5-17, and all you have to do is sign up to play for a fee.
“The motivation to bringing NFL FLAG to Dothan is giving kids the opportunity,” Reese said. “Obviously, everybody knows there’s no NFL team here, so to bring a piece of the NFL and giving kids the opportunity to have that experience, to be the Cowboys, to be the Broncos.”
Reese says if you don’t know how to play they will teach you and the league is set to start in the fall.
