ENTERPRISE, Ala (WDHN) — This Saturday, the spring festival at the boll weevil monument returns to downtown enterprise with a record number of vendors and family-friendly activities.
City officials say it will include more than 100 vendors along Main street, as well as several booths with free children’s activities.
At Main Street Candy Company, they say a large number of residents and visitors alike should make it quite profitable.
Jocelyn Hakes says “People come in and say we’re just so excited that you have a candy store, it’s so fun having it downtown.”
With Main Street being a state road, the Spring Festival is one of four days a year that
the Alabama Department of Transportation allows the city to “shut down” the street to vehicular traffic. Chad Wester of Boll Weevil Soap Company says these festivals are very important to the local merchants’ bottom line.
Wester says “If you’ll notice there are not any big brands in Downtown Enterprise. These are all maw and paw shops and so these events are critical to the economy of our city and the success of these small businesses. We hope everybody comes out and gets the spring fever and enjoys a little bit of hospitality.”
And due to the potential for bad weather, the Spring festival times have been changed to this Saturday.
Opening ceremonies are now at noon at the Boll Weevil Monument. The Easter hat parade at 1:00 p.m. and the always popular Peep these pups easter themed outfit contest for dogs starts at 3:30 p.m.
In addition, they’ll be live music, and Line dancing on Main Street starting at 2:30.
