OZARK, Ala. (WDHN) — Since Mark Blankenship became the Mayor of Ozark, the downtown area has been experiencing a growth spurt.

Earlier this week, an old telephone company building was demolished in order to make room for a parking lot for downtown employees.

Just across the street at the shopping center, work has been taking place for about a month on the new Ozark City Library.

Another addition right next door is the Super Sav grocery store will soon become a Piggly Wiggly.

Blankenship said he’s thrilled with everyone working together to make the city more appealing.

“Well, I just think you got a mayor and a city council that’s really all working with a common goal with growing Ozark, and I think business owners are jumping in with us and doing what it takes to grow our city,” he said.

Blankenship said the plan is to add loft apartments and possibly a new restaurant to the downtown area.
