ENTERPRISE, Ala. (WDHN) — The installation of new synthetic turf at Wildcat Stadium at Enterprise High School has gotten underway.
The grass turf and much of the topsoil had to be removed before the installation of the artificial surface at Wildcat Stadium.
At a plant in Georgia, the new astroturf’s Rhino Blend is being manufactured. It’ll be delivered at Enterprise High School late this month or early May.
Principal Stan Sauls said the company handling installation says work should be completed by mid-May. The school’s high school graduation is planned for the stadium on May 27.
“At this moment, as you can see, the surface of the field is being removed,” Sauls said. “At this point, the soil has been taken up and has been placed at this area of the field, and as you can see, they’re taking the soil in dump trucks and delivering to a different site.”
Enterprise High School’s athletic director said it is very expensive to put in the artificial turf, but it will provide a number of different activities of venues to take place here.
It’ll allow the school to hold numerous events without causing damage to the field.
“The turf will allow us to play more games and maintain a surface that is presentable in each contest and even into graduation in May,” Trawick said.
School officials said with the stadium lights, crews can work well into the evening in order to get the project done prior to graduation.
In addition, the new turf is designed to reflect much of the day’s heating. This is expected to make it more comfortable for those on the field and in the stands.
The Enterprise City School District has not announced if it will hold one graduation ceremony or if it’ll be split into several ceremonies like last year.
