COFFEE COUNTY, Ala (WDHN) — A 70-year-old Opp man has died after Valentine’s day crash in Coffee County.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, On Tuesday, February 14, at approximately 4:25 p.m, Dennis Edward Murphy was critically injured when the 2021 Volkswagen Atlas he was driving collided head-on with a 2020 Ford F-150 driven by Jeremy Clayton Powell, 44, of Brundidge.

ALEA says neither of the drivers was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Both were injured and transported to local area hospitals for treatment, where Murphy later died due to his injuries and was pronounced dead on Thursday, February 16.

The crash occurred on Alabama 87 near the 49-mile marker, approximately 16 miles north of Elba.

Nothing further is available as ALEA Troopers with the Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
