COTTONWOOD, Ala. (WDHN) — The fire that destroyed a vacant home in Cottonwood on Saturday night was likely caused by arson, police say.

During the investigation, officials say they didn’t find anything to suggest an electrical fire was the cause of the blaze.

Based on photos of the initial scene, it is believed that direct contact with an open flame is the cause of the fire, Cottonwood police say.

Currently, there is no person of interest in the arson.

COTTONWOOD, Ala. (WDHN) — A structure fire at the 1000 block of Houston Street in Cottonwood destroyed an abandoned home Saturday night.

Cottonwood Fire Department arrived on scene shortly after 11:00 p.m.

The home was fully engulfed in flames and has been destroyed. Crews were able to tame the blaze quickly after.

As of Saturday night, officials believe this may have been a result of an arson.

More information will be known Sunday when crews return to the scene.
