WDHN confirmed a fatality associated with this house fire at 3:17 AM Monday morning, but withheld that information in an effort to respect the notification process for relatives.

Houston County Coroner Robert Byrd was at the scene of the fatal fire in the 3:00 AM hour Monday morning after the body of Mr. Nathaniel Newsome was found inside.

The Dothan Fire Department released this information in a Monday morning press notification.

The victim has been identified as Mr. Nathaniel Allen Newsome, a 62 year old male. Investigators with the Dothan Fire Department are on scene working to determine the cause of the fire. Dothan Fire Chief, Larry Williams, said “This is a tragedy for this family, the neighborhood and our City”. Williams continued, “After this tragedy in the holiday season, I urge all of our citizens to ensure they have working smoke alarms in their home as well as a home evacuation plan”. Fire Chief Williams concluded, “The family and friends of the victim will continue to be in the thoughts and prayers of all of us at the Dothan Fire Department”.”

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — The Dothan Fire Department is fighting a fully involved house fire on Fence Post Lane in the Woodlands.

The fire grew to the point where it caused parts of the building to collapse, and the light of the flames can be seen from the road.

The Dothan Fire Department battled a massive blaze in the Woodlands subdivision Sunday night, unable to make entry because of the size of the fire.

Dothan firefighters are trying to put out the fire in defensive mode because they cannot enter the building at the moment.

It is currently unknown if someone is inside the building.
