HEADLAND, Ala. (WDHN) — Local businesses were celebrated Thursday morning in Headland.

The “First Annual Gemmy Awards” were held to honor the success of the community.

The Headland Area Chamber of Commerce hosted a luncheon where it gave seven different awards to various businesses and people that positively impacted the area.

Nominees for the awards were recommended by the community. Then, winners were selected by a chamber of commerce committee.

“We really hope that our Gemmy Awards grow,” said Adrienne Wilkins, Headland Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, “This is the first time that we’re having it outside on the square, and it’s a beautiful day, and we’re very very lucky and fortunate, and we’re super excited about growing it and honoring and celebrating more members of our community.”

The chamber hopes the Gemmy’s will encourage more local businesses to get involved with their community.
