Food pantry started by student to feed classmates is growing

Local News

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — At Beverlye Intermediate Middle school, student Z’yon Norton is helping feed classmates who are in need.

Two years ago, Norton created Royal Special Heart Pantry, wanting to help the community. As fellow students, it always bothered Norton seeing other classmates not being able to have food throughout the day and during the week.

Over the past year, her pantry has grown with food items like noodles, pop-tarts, chips, and cookies.

Despite COVID-19 concerns, she was able to hold a contactless food drive last year. She gave away 123 bags of food that students were able to go home with on the last day of school.

This year, she’s looking to do even better with their first one of the new school year on October 1st on Fortner Street.

She looks forward to seeing all of you there to help feed these students.
