Elba, Ala. (WDHN) — A former Elba city school employee had a preliminary hearing on a charge of having sex with a 16-year-old student. A violation of Alabama’s school employee sex act.

Neither former Elba High School Secretary, Martha Pope, nor her attorney appeared.

District Judge Jeff Kelley then said the 43-year-old defendant, Pope, waived the hearing and ordered that
the case is placed on the docket of the Coffee County Grand Jury next month.

In November, Coffee County District Judge, Josh Wilson excused himself from the case.
