GENEVA COUNTY, Ala. (WDHN) — On Sunday, retired Geneva County Probate Judge Harold B. Wise passed away at 96-years-old.
From the 1950s thru mid-1990s, Wise served as a state representative, and later as Geneva County’s
probate judge for several terms.
In 1972 as a supporter of then Alabama Governor George Wallace’s bid for the Democratic presidential nod, Wise was next to Wallace when he was shot in an assassination attempt in Maryland.
Former Geneva County Judge Charles Fleming remembers wise as an impartial individual, who always championed the little guy.
“Was truly a populist, he was a man to get out an mix and mingle. He and his wife would get out and they were outstanding dancers and they would get out in Geneva County and probably outlying areas,” Fleming said.
A graveside service for Judge Wise will be held at ten a.m. Wednesday morning in Bethel Cemetery outside of Kinston.
