OZARK, Ala. (WDHN)—A very special moment for a 90-year-old Ozark resident who served 17 years as that city’s mayor.
Current Mayor Mark Blankenship and city officials surprised “former” Mayor Billy Blackmon with an unveiling of a plaque in his honor.
From 1979 to 1996, Blackmon served 17 years as mayor. The longest tenure anyone has held that post in the city’s history which dates back to the 19th century.
The former mayor thanked the good people of Ozark and his own staff.
Ironically in all 17 years as mayor, Blackmon worked with the exact city council members.
The plaque dedicated to former Mayor Blackmon will be posted in the foyer of the Ozark Municipal Building.
