Geneva passes animal control ordinance

Local News

GENEVA, Ala. (WDHN) — Monday night, the Geneva City Council unanimously approved a new animal control ordinance.

The ordinance prohibits the animal from roaming in the neighborhood.

It must be leashed.

Over recent months, the city’s animal shelter has been overwhelmed with a large number of stray and abandoned cats and dogs.

“Correct leash law,” Geneva Mayor David Hayes said. “Something we can enforce, and help owners as well, so they know what we’re doing and trying to help a nuisance that we have for a long time now, we’re going to straighten up and clean it up.”

In addition to Geneva, several other cities in the Wiregrass are also looking at adding restrictions to their animal control ordinances.
