Geneva County EMA director fired by commission

GENEVA, Ala. (WDHN) — The Geneva County Commission fired emergency management director Eric Johnson Monday by three votes in favor and one abstention by District One Commissioner Weston Spivey.

The Samson native had just recently completed his first year as the director of the Geneva County Emergency Management Agency, but commissioners said he didn’t fulfill several obligations that he was required to complete.

At this time, Sheriff Tony Helms is expected to be the acting e-m-a director until the commission picks johnson’s replacement.

The start of the 2021 hurricane season is several months away, beginning June 1.
