HARTFORD, Ala. (WDHN) — The Mayor of Hartford, Neil Strickland, is stepping down at the end of this month.

Strickland announced he will leave office at a city council meeting on Monday night.

Strickland tells WDHN that he and his wife Wendy want to spend more time with family.

Mayor pro tempore Ron Adams, who is the District Five City Councilman, will take over temporarily when Strickland leaves.

It will be up to the city council to elect one of their own to fill the remainder of Strickland’s term.

If the council cannot come to an agreement the decision will be left to Governor Kay Ivey.
