HOUSTON COUNTY, Ala. (WDHN) — The Houston County Sheriff’s Office addressed concerns about a gun that was found in a Rehobeth Elementary School student’s backpack on Friday.
After school was out for the Friday, an elementary student went home to tell his parents about how another student brought a gun to school.
The Houston County Sheriff’s Office said the gun was not loaded but there was a bullet in the chamber. The student had no intentions to use the gun as there were no threats made or no bullying.
The school system was immediately contacted and that’s when they reached out to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies went to the student’s house and asked to search the bag the student’s parents were cooperative with law enforcement so there were no further issues.
Sheriff Donald Valenza said the school system will address the situation based on their school policy.
