HENRY COUNTY, Ala (WDHN) — After an incident at a Henry County school, the sheriff’s office will be traveling to schools and reminding students of the dangers of child pornography.

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office did not go into details about what happened but did say in a release that deputies were called to investigate an incident last week at a school in Henry County.

The incident allegedly involved the possession or distribution of child pornography.

Henry County Sheriff Eric Blankenship wants to remind both students and parents that possession of even one picture containing nudity from someone under the age of 18, and sending a picture of the same nature, is an arrestable offense.

Officials with the Sheriff’s Office will be traveling to all Henry County schools throughout the week to educate students on the severity of the charges and the potential consequences.

As children reach ages where they begin to experiment and become sexually active they sometimes take and send pictures which violate these laws. Even if their ages are the same it doesn’t change the law concerning possession of child pornography. We ask that you please advise your children of the severity of these crimes and hopefully we can work together to prevent future incidents from happening

Release from Henry County Sheriff Eric Blankenship

Sheriff Blankenship says that any phones taken during the investigation will be returned in the next couple of days and if a child has received, possesses, or has sent any photos and parents want HCSO investigators to ensure there are no longer any photos on their phones, please bring the phones to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office during normal business hours.
