HENRY COUNTY, Ala. (WDHN) — The new crisis center coming to Dothan in 2023 would serve as a mental health emergency room to specifically treat emotional issues.
The center is also partnering with law enforcement agencies in the Wiregrass.
Henry County deputies and police will be trained in the ability to identify and transport mentally challenged individuals, so the patient can receive quicker treatment.
This new process will bring people to the crisis center, which should be up and running by the spring of 2023.
“This will short circuit that and now those who have been trained or someone on-call or someone on active duty can be there, recognize the problem, put them in the car, and get them to one of these agencies much much quicker,” Henry County Commission Chairman David Money said.
Law enforcement will receive mental health training free of charge.
