ASHFORD, Ala. (WDHN) — A Wiregrass family is picking up the pieces after their home was destroyed by fire.

The Ashford Fire Department was called out to Battles Road early Thursday afternoon.

According to Ashford Fire Chief Jimmy Posey, when rescue crews arrived they saw a double-wide mobile home engulfed in flames and smoke.

Posey says no one was home at the time.

“Smoke detector of course. No body was home, it wouldn’t have made a difference with this home,” Posey said. “But you know the high winds was one of the problems we had today, 15-20 mph winds.”

Posey says they had the help of six other fire departments to help contain the fire.
