HOUSTON COUNTY, Ala. (WDHN) — A 2-year-old child has died after police say he accidentally drowned at a Houston County home.

Police responded around 6 p.m. Thursday to a report of a child not breathing at a home in Taylor.

After a policeman arrived at the home, he found the child not breathing after being underwater for too long. Both he and a Houston County deputy performed CPR on the child, however, he was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead, according to Taylor police. The Hoston County Coroner’s Office has identified the child as Connor Napper.

An investigation found that the child had gotten into the water after going through the doggy door into the aboveground pool without being supervised, TPD says.

Taylor Police Chief Gary Hughes says charges against any of the adults present are unlikely at this time.

The incident is still under investigation. Stay with WDHN News for updates.
