Houston County Commission approves new sheriff’s building

Local News

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Last week Houston County Commissioners selected the Five Star Credit Union as the location for the new Houston County Sheriff’s Office and today it was approved unanimously.

A new building for the sheriffs office would have been around $5 million, instead, they bought the credit union building for $2.2 million.

The new building will be more updated, spacious, and come with additional parking for their fleet.

“And the important thing to us this helps our continued support of downtown,” Houston County Commission Chairman Mark Culver. “It will enhance our farmers market, it will allow five star to build a new facility so its a win win for everybody”

Culver says it’ll take about a year for the credit union to have their new facility built and there’s no word on what will happen to the current sheriffs building.
